sundays are for black tees + headwraps | 3 types of self-care

Inadvertently, Sundays have become somewhat of a therapeutic thing for me with my black tees and headwraps.  My rendition of self-care Sundays.  It has been a way for me to care for myself beyond the physical.  As a single mother and entrepreneur who has battled with depression and anxiety, taking care of ME is important more than ever.

Whatever your truth is, understand that taking time for yourself is far from selfish -- it is critical to your well-being.  Not to mention, during these times, we have to hold onto anything that keeps us closer to the light, keeps us grounded, and reboots our bodies.

So today, I thought I would share with you three types of self-care activities and how you can easily put them into practice to rejuvenate the soul.

1 | Physical Self-Care

Yup, I am not a fan of exercising!  There I said it.  It's one of the things I hate the most.  But somehow I've mustered up enough strength and time to place it into my weekly routine.  No, you do not have to work out 7 days a week...not necessary.  Instead, do something that you find enjoyable.

Try this -

- walking

- bike riding

- incorporating healthy snacks/meals into your diet.

2 | Emotional Self-Care

This is a big one for me.  As I stated above, I fought with my mental health because I thought I could do it on my own.  What's worse, I was in complete denial.  Once I loosened the hold on my emotions and understood my mental checkpoints, I found myself releasing so much stress.  I know when to step away and take breaks instead of working myself into a downward spiral.

Try this -

- meditation

- journaling

- understand your limits

3 | Social Self-Care

So this may be a little more difficult to accomplish now given the current climate.  Social distancing is still real is doesn't seem like it is going anywhere anytime soon.  But human interaction is key, it is only natural to yearn to be around people.

Try this -

- spend time with family

- facetime friends

There aren't any rules for self-care.  What may be gratifying for you, may look different for someone else.  The idea is to carve out time for you and invest in your mental health.

*Please note, you should not rely on this information as a substitute for mental health treatment.  If you are concerned about your mental health, you should always consult with a licensed health care professional for assistance.
