Why a Consistent Skincare Regimen is Important

Why a Consistent Skincare Regimen is Important

When it comes to skincare, I'm sure you've heard a time or two that consistency is key.  As much as you may not want to hear it or even believe it -- because why should you when there are so many claims of miracle products?  We're sharing why having a consistent skincare regimen is the way to go despite your skin type or concern.

But First, Know Your Skin

What works for some, may not work for you.  This is why it's important to know what makes your skin tick.  The more you become comfortable with knowing how your skin behaves the easier it is for you to treat it accordingly.

Here are characteristics of the different skin types:

Dry skin - tight, flaky, and calloused

Oily skin: shiny, greasy and typically large pores

Normal skin: hydrated and stable

Combination skin: dry and oil is certain spots

When transitioning to a consistent routine, knowing your skin allows you to choose what you do and don't need based on your current skin state

You will notice natural occurrences in which your skin behaves such as oily skin.  But it's important to know that skin is always evolving and can change based on the weather changes, food intake, medication, and/or stress to name a few.

An effective skin regimen that works for all skin types is as basic as a cleanse, tone, and moisturize.

Cleanse using a cleanser that works specifically for your skin type.

Tone to balance the skin.

Moisturize to hydrate the skin.

Anything additional is simply enhancements.

Visible Results in Appearance

Products don't work overnight.  The reality is when you begin to use your skincare products, they do begin working almost instantly.  However, it takes time to see actual results because of the nature of the skin cycle.  Well, how long?  That timeframe generally takes a month for new skin cells to develop, emerge to the surface, and shed.

For that reason, allow four to eight weeks before you evaluate whether your skincare regimen is making an impact.

If you aren't consistent with your routine, no product will help you get to the results that you desire.

Daily Skin Shedding

As mentioned above, your skin undergoes a cycle in which the outer layer of skin continues to change, allowing room for more skin cells to take its place.  What your skin looks like today, could change tomorrow as your skin cells prepare to shed away.

With a consistent skincare routine, you are assisting your skin with keeping up with your natural glow.

Easy Maintenance

Even when you have reached your skin goals, that doesn't mean you should stop what you're doing.  Keeping your skin healthy is much easier to maintain than trying to correct problems because you've slacked off.

Skin concerns, such as acne, never take a break.  The moment your skin looks clear, below the surface acne is forming.  Instead of waiting until damage occurs, incorporate a daily skincare routine as a preventative measure.
