CLOSING THE GAPS IN SKINCARE

skin of color requires a different level of care

At xo Brown Girl, our plant-based skincare is inspired by and grounded in the skincare challenges women of color face - acne, hyperpigmentation, and dry skin. We saw a need and developed skincare that is inclusive to melanin-rich skin that is otherwise left tone-deaf to the needs of black women.

Skin of color requires s different approach with treatments and ingredient concentration to resolve the issues that we face. There is such a void of optimized skincare and a clear gap on addressing the needs of skin of color. Resulting in the need for skincare that is formulated with ingredients designed for our unique skincare concerns.

We celebrate and uplift black and brown women who are typically left with few choices and are often underrepresented. Although we are highly welcoming to all skin tones/shades, our products are designed specifically for women of color who lack inclusivity with skincare.

"Our ethos is to harness the power of nature to enhance and provide clean skincare options to women of color."

MEET FRANKIE

Founder, Frankie Croker, created xo Brown Girl as a way to formulate products that address the skincare needs of women of color with the use of plant-based and pure ingredients.  As an advocate for healthy skin, Frankie wanted to learn and understand skin health.  She received her education and training Certified from the the School of Natural Skincare.

Frankie grew up in South Carolina, where she struggled with acne at an early age.  She went through dealing with low self-esteem and constantly looking for products that ultimately didn't work.  After undergoing a major bout of acne during her second pregnancy, she yet again struggled with finding safe and effective products that she could use while nursing.  To her avail, she was left with no options.  It wasn't until 2020 that she was introduced to skincare and natural options to address all skin concerns.

On a personal note, Frankie is single mommy to two boys, Caden and Carter. A licensed esthetician, who specializes in a holistic approach.  Her inspiration is to utilize this community to not only heal, but educate women how to take of their skin from the inside out.

Based in the Southern East Coast, Georgia, all products are proudly (and carefully) handcrafted in the USA.  Thank you for joining our journey!

Frankie's Skincare Regimen

for balancing oil routine

The HEAL line is my go-to to for everyday use for my oily skin type. I have slightly different routines for the AM compared to PM.

Here's what my AM routine looks like:

  1. I start with the cleanser and pat dry.
  2. I then follow with misting the toner all over and spread with my finger tips.
  3. While my skin is damp I add the serum for extra hydration.
  4. Next up, I moisturize with the facial cream and may follow with the facial nectar during cooler days to lock in moisture.
  5. I top everything off with sunscreen (currently enjoying Paula’s Choice Extra Care Non-Greasy SPF 50).

If I decide to wear makeup for the day, I follow these steps and proceed with a primer and my makeup routine.

My PM routine is pretty similar. The major difference is I begin with the cleansing oil then follow the remaining steps as my AM routine.

for dark spots + evening skin tone

I often add BALANCE to the mix to illuminate my skin and even out areas where I have dark spots. I use the same routine that I use with HEAL for both AM and PM.

For my AM routine:

  1. I start with the cleanser and pat dry.
  2. I then follow with misting the toner all over and spread with my finger tips.
  3. While my skin is damp I add the serum that contains active ingredients of tyrosinase inhibitors to inhibit melanin production to aid in fading my dark areas.
  4. The final stage, I moisturize with the facial cream. If I am feeling on the dry side I will add the facial nectar to lock in moisture.
  5. I top everything off with sunscreen (currently enjoying Paula’s Choice Extra Care Non-Greasy SPF 50).

If I decide to wear makeup for the day, I follow these steps and proceed with a primer and my makeup routine.

My PM routine again is very similar with the difference of starting with a cleansing oil then continue the AM routine.

Twice a week I use the clay face mask to deep clean and add some extra glow.
